Power couple Jay-Z and Beyonce have been handed the Key to the city of Columbia for their humanitarian and cultural impact on the city.
The songstress and rapper were presented with the award by Columbia Mayor Steve Benjamin.
After the presentation, they thrilled fans with an awesome OTR II performance at Williams- Brice stadium, getting more plaudits.
Steve Benjamin confirmed the award on Twitter, he wrote:
“Late night but what an incredible show at #OTRII in @ColumbiaSC ! It was wonderful to have a chance to recognize the humanitarian & cultural contributions of Mr. & Mrs. Carter. August 21st was officially “Beyoncé Knowles Carter & Shawn Carter Day” in @ColumbiaSC @Beyonce @S_C_”
The recognition comes with their “On the Run II Tour” stop in Columbia at Williams-Brice Stadium.
Mayor Benjamin said on Twitter that the concert date “was officially Beyonce Knowles Carter and Shawn Carter Day” in the city.
Mayor Benjamin honored the couple for their humanitarian and cultural contributions.
“Beyoncé and Jay-Z have contributed tremendously to not only popular culture and the entertainment industry but also to humanitarian aid in the United States and around the world,” Mayor Benjamin said.
“We’re delighted to proclaim this day in their name and give them yet another reason to come back to our city.”
