Barcelona’s Jordi Alba hits out at FIFA over Messi

Even at the age of 31 Lionel Messi doesn’t look like he is about to stop anytime soon following his performance in Barcelona’s 4-2 win over Tottenham in their champions league encounter at Wembley on Wednesday night.

It was Messi’s brilliant pass that picked our Alba who set up Coutinho to fire in. Rakitic added a brilliant second minutes later with a perfect Volley that Zidane will be proud of. Harry Kane brought Spurs back into the game with a brilliant low effort.

However, it became Messi show after that as he combined perfectly with Luis Suarez to finish from close range. An Erik Lamela deflected shot threatened a spurs comeback once again but Messi made sure there won’t be any late drama by combining with Suarez again to secure the points for Barcelona.

The win was Barcelona’s first in four games following three disappointing results in their last three games in the Spanish League. The win also means Barcelona now have two wins out of two in their champions league group this season.

However, if the Blaugrana are going to make an impact in the Champions League they will have to hope their Number 10 is in the kind of form he was last night for all games.

The Argentine who was not in the final Nominees list for the FIFA best awards put up a performance that would’ve made FIFA considered if they made a mistake in their list.

Nevertheless, Messi’s Teammate Jordi Alba has claimed the best awards is is a lie adding that Messi is in a different league from other players. For me, The Best is a lie. Modric is a great player, one of the best in the world,” Alba said, via Marca.

“But Messi is like at a separate table, plays at another level. He has once again demonstrated that he is the best in the world.

“When Leo runs, the rest of us only have to grit our teeth. He is the best and he makes us all a little better.”
It is a sentiment shared by Rakitic who is an international teammate of the best award winner Luka Modric.

Speaking after the win Rakitic said “With all respect to other players who have won it [Ballon d’Or], we know there is a player who is different to the others and that is Leo Messi,” Rakitic said post-game.

“Sometimes there are circumstances like Luka Modric doing an outstanding season and maybe people want to change a bit. “But, with all respect, Luka and the others know there is a player who is different to the others, and that is Leo Messi.”

Messi has currently scored 10 goals with five assists this season. The five-time Ballon d’Or winner also added Tottenham to lists of English teams that have felt his greatness. The Argentine has scored 22 times in 29 appearances against English sides.
