Dembele’s indiscipline doesn’t matter as long as he is performing on the pitch-Lenglet

clement-lenglet-barcelona-2018-19_49wvuivzbl8x1rjwm7ra0kql7Barcelona defender Clement Lenglet has defended his country man Ousmane Dembele saying as long as he is performing well on the pitch all other things don’t matter.  The France forward has received criticism for his discipline since moving from Borussia Dortmund in 2017 with outsiders suggesting he is wasting his talent.

Dembele has struggled to nail down a regular starting spot and has been linked with a move to Arsenal, although Lionel Messi recently urged him to stay. In his latest transgression, Dembele was two hours late to training on Sunday and, when asked about the tardiness, Lenglet told reporters: “I don’t have much idea about what is happening with him, but what I do know is that he is doing very well on the pitch,”ousmane-dembele-barcelona-2018-19_1cupox6ys55t11sz0dxe1u2rr6

“I don’t know if [a punishment] is the right thing to do or not, you’d have to ask that question to those with the power because I don’t know if he has to be sanctioned. “He’s doing a lot of things well on the pitch. He’s playing very well for the team and that’s what interests me most about him.” Barca are having a strong season, sitting top of La Liga and are unbeaten in the Champions League. The Spanish champions face Tottenham on Tuesday evening but the game has little significance for them because they have already won Group B with 13 points from five games.

barcelona-v-real-sociedad-la-liga-5b583ee77134f65cd900000eLenglet insists the squad is fully motivated for the encounter though: “This game is still an important one for us because it is a Champions League game and you don’t play many of them in a year,” he continued. “You have to enjoy these games because they are a chance for you to play against the best in the world.

“We aren’t happy about conceding goals, though, and that’s a very important issue for us because we want to win things. “In recent games, we have suffered a little, but it is difficult to complete a full 90 minutes without having tough moments.”

Barcelona joins Real Madrid to fight against La Liga

luissuarezaleixvidalrealmadridvbarcelona1426982302.jpg

Spanish champions, Barcelona have joined their rivals in batle against La Liga, as they have withdrawn from a plan to play their LaLiga away match against Girona in Miami. Girona were set to face the league leaders in Florida in January, but the deal appears dead after the Blaugrana pulled out.

As part of a 15-year agreement between Spain’s top division and Relevent Sports, it was proposed Barca would face Girona at Hard Rock Stadium in January. But LaLiga’s plan proved highly unpopular, with the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) and Association of Spanish Footballers (AFE) both publicly speaking out against it.

FIFA president Gianni Infantino in October said he would block any attempt to take a LaLiga game to the United States, although the league’s president Javier Tebas has continued to push for the proposal.barcelona-lionel-messi-gerard-pique-1303135804196764.jpg

Barca, though, said on Monday they are no longer willing to play Girona in Miami because of a lack of support for the idea. However, the Catalan giants remain open to the possibility when it is backed from all quarters.

“The Barcelona board of directors have agreed to withdraw their disposal to play their game against Girona in Miami, after noting a lack of consensus over this proposal,” their statement said.

1544483036_618185_noticia_normalFC Barcelona were and remain willing to play a LaLiga game in Miami, and accepted that income from the game would be shared amongst all Primera Division and Segunda Division clubs, following the same criteria of television rights money distribution, but consider that this project will not prosper until there is an agreement between all parties.”

Barcelona are set to take on Tottenham in the Champions League this week before returning to league play against Levante on Sunday. The club currently sits atop LaLiga with a three-point gap separating them from Sevilla.

233 policemen arrested over corruption charges

Nigerian-police-are-among-the-best-peacekeepers-in-the-worldTwo hundred and thirty-three policemen have been arrested for corruption related offences in the past one year, Commissioner Imohimi Edgal said yesterday.

Of the total arrests made, Edgal said 16 were dismissed, 26 demoted, one charged to court and 190 served severe punishments with the offences documented in their service files.

He spoke at the Anti-Corruption Day with the theme: “Tackling corruption through collective responsibility”.

It was organised by the Centre for Change.

police4747883853.jpgEdgal said the command had continued to uphold the mandate of the Inspector General of Police (IG) Ibrahim Idris, which is to eradicate corruption and human right infractions within the system.

He said: “In the last one year, 233 policemen have been arrested and tried for corrupt practices. Sixteen of them have been dismissed, one policeman charged to court, 26 have been reduced in rank and 190 of them have gotten major entries in their files.

“Others were given punishment relating to minor entries and fatigue to act as a deterrent to others. We will continue to partner every other group to fight corruption.”

Edgal, who was recognised by the centre as the Anti-Corruption Champion, said he felt honoured that people were watching and taking note of his actions.

The founder of the centre, Dr. Joe Okei-Odumakin, said Nigeria was bleeding under the heavyweight of corruption.

igp2074823343.jpg“It is either we kill corruption or corruption kills us. It is also certain that all institutions must be strengthened and that there should be synergy. This is why you will find out that the Police as an institution remains the lubricant for the survival of our great country.

“Talk is very cheap; it is extremely easy for us to continue to talk about corruption. But to act and also ensure that we fight that cancer, there should be no game place. This is why this synergy is very important for us today.

Ronaldo says he doesn’t miss Lionel Messi in Italy

Ronaldo-960Cristiano Ronaldo has not taken long to adjust to life in Italy with Juventus.

The Portuguese superstar shocked the world when he swapped Real Madrid for Turin in a €100m deal in the summer.

Los Blancos have certainly missed his presence this season, while Juve already look an improved outfit with the 33-year-old spearheading their attack.

Ronaldo already has 10 goals and five assists to his name in just 15 Serie A games, with Juve unbeaten at the top of the table.

Both Ronaldo and Lionel Messi are still the two finest players in world football despite being in their 30’s and now not being in the same domestic league to spur each other on.

But do they actually miss each other? Well, Ronaldo was asked that question in an interview with Gazzetta.

The Portuguese responded: “No, maybe he misses me. I played in England, Spain, Italy, Portugal, in the national team, while he is still in Spain.messi-ronaldo-32088407795.jpg

“Maybe he needs me more. For me, life is a challenge, I like it and I like to make people happy. I would like him to come to Italy one day.

“Like me, accept the challenge. However, if he is happy there, I respect him, he is a fantastic player, a good guy but I do not miss anything here. This is my new life and I’m happy.”

ronaldo-back481941035.jpg

Ronaldo also gave a telling answer when asked if any Juve players impress him more than others.

He said: “It’s not fair to name just a few, but I can say that this is the best group I’ve ever played. Here we are a team, elsewhere someone feels bigger than others but here they are all on the same line, they are humble and want to win.

“If Dybala or Mandzukic do not mark, you still see them happy, smile. For me it is beautiful, I perceive the difference. Even in Madrid they are humble but here. I feel they are more so. It is very different from Madrid, this is more a family .”

See New Punishment Handed To Rev. Fr. Mbaka By The Catholic Church

Rev. MbakaRev. Fr. Ejike Mbaka of the Adoration Ministries Enugu Nigeria (AMEN) has been banned from giving endorsements to any politician or political parties ahead of the 2019 General Elections by the Catholic Church.

Bishop Callistus Onaga of Enugu Catholic Diocese announced the ban at the weekend while speaking at Priestly Ordination in St. Joseph’s Catholic Church Emene Enugu.

According to Bishop Onaga, the church has also asked Mbaka to send a written apology to former Anambra State Governor and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) vice presidential candidate, Peter Obi, over their recent altercation.

Mbaka-1“The Church does not want prophesy. We are in a democracy and not theocracy. We asked Mbaka to send a written apology to Obi. What he did was not apology but apologetics. He wrote an apology before us and I hope it will be in the social press now,” Onaga said.

The Bishop insisted that Mbaka must adhere to the instructions of the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria (CBCN) and do not get involved in the endorsement of candidates.

Onaga maintained that Mbaka should not stay in one place and decide who will win or lose.mbaka-3-2

“Stop prophesying on who is going to be what. He (Mbaka) told us he was sorry. He said he didn’t know what happened and promised it won’t happen again.
“Let us pray for Mbaka. There’s no doubt that Mbaka is a gifted priest. Stop misleading him. You (the followers) pushed him into doing what he did. Daddy, Daddy, Daddy and he misspoke. Follow him, but pray for him.

You (people who reacted to his outbursts) called him names. When I heard it I also called him names. The Church is a human church with all human limitations.
“I hope with this public statement everything will now rest so that we will continue with our Mass the way we’ve been doing it” Onaga said.

Mbaka-and-Peter-ObiFather Mbaka became very popular with political prophesies in 2015 when he successfully predicted the victory of Muhammadu Buhari of APC over the then incumbent President, Goodluck Jonathan of PDP.

‘Messi the best in the world but Barcelona are only human’ – Alli

delealli-croppedDele Alli considers Lionel Messi to be “the best player in the world and a joy to watch”, but says Barcelona hold no fear for Tottenham as they “are human and everyone makes mistakes”.

Spurs are set to make a trip to Camp Nou on Tuesday as they take in their final fixture of the Champions League group stage.

Barca are already assured of a place in the last 16, but Mauricio Pochettino’s side have work to do if they are to join the Catalan giants in the knockout rounds.messi-and-Cristiano

A positive result will likely be required in the most testing of surroundings, with Alli aware of the size of the challenge facing Spurs – particularly from a five-time Ballon d’Or winner.

The England international said: “He [Messi] is a player that everyone idolised because of what he’s achieved in his career.

“For me, he is the best player in the world and he’s a joy to watch. To be honest, though, I’m not really concerned about what they do with their players.”lionel-messi-cropped_6khnpodnzc3g1s80dva0xuhm0313094635.jpg

Barca may decide to rest Messi with their progress already secured.

Tottenham, though, are trying to remain focused on their own game, with Alli of the belief that a notable scalp can be secured on the grandest of European nights.

He added: “We are definitely going there with confidence, we know it’s going to be a difficult game but they are human and everyone makes mistakes.

“We’ve just got to make sure that we punish them and be as on it as we can.

messigoalfc550777566.jpg“They are one of the best teams in the world, they’ve got some great players and as a kid you dream about playing at the Nou Camp, and we’re going to go there and give it our best shot.

“We’re ready. It’s going to be another difficult game but they’re the games you want to be a part of, playing one of the best teams in the world and some of the world’s greatest players.messsi-english

“You want to be challenging yourself and we’re going there with the mentality that we can win and we have to believe.”

Spurs have collected seven points from their five outings in Group B to date, with that return leaving them level with Serie A giants Inter – who face PSV in their final fixture on Tuesday.

“We are targeting a clash against the Real Madrid”-Maidana

River Plate defender Jonatan Maidana is eyeing a meeting with Real Madrid after his team’s Copa Libertadores success on Sunday.

A 3-1 second-leg win over rivals Boca Juniors in Madrid saw River seal a 5-3 aggregate success.

That sent Marcelo Gallardo’s men to the United Arab Emirates for the Club World Cup, where they will face ES Tunis, Al Ain or Team Wellington before a potential meeting with European champions Madrid.

Maidana said River were targeting a clash against the LaLiga giants later this month.

“Now we go for Real Madrid, our next goal,” the defender said, via TyC Sports.

“We won a fair final, now to celebrate the achievement.”

River had to come from behind in the second leg, Lucas Pratto cancelling out Dario Benedetto’s opener to force extra time.

Wilmar Barrios’ red card turned the game in River’s favour and they made the most of their numerical advantage, goals from Juan Quintero and Gonzalo Martinez securing their win.

“A lot of the match was very even,” Maidana said. “After the equaliser we managed well and we could win it.

“In the second half we improved, because in the first we made a big mistake. We talked at half-time and we tried not to miss so many passes and we achieved [our goal], because we dominated the game.”

The only thing I feel is sadness – Schelotto

Boca Juniors head coach Guillermo Barros Schelotto expressed his sadness after his side suffered a 5-3 aggregate defeat to bitter rivals River Plate in the Copa Libertadores final.

Sunday’s controversial rearranged second leg at the Santiago Bernabeu in Madrid went in favour of River, who secured a 3-1 extra-time victory against 10-man Boca.

After the eagerly anticipated match was twice suspended in November due to an attack on Boca’s team bus, River came out on top thanks to extra-time goals from Juan Quintero and Gonzalo Martinez.

Boca had taken the lead in stunning fashion via Dario Benedetto on the stroke of half-time before Lucas Pratto equalised for River, who went on to secure a fourth Libertadores trophy.

Fronting the media afterwards in the Spanish capital, Boca boss Schelotto could not hide his disappointment, telling reporters: “The only thing I feel is sadness for not winning the cup and giving it to the people of Boca.

“That’s the only thing that makes me feel bad – not bringing the cup to Boca.”

“I want to congratulate the Boca players for how they played, even when we were one or two less in the final, they pushed, fought and fought,” Schelotto added. “Then, [I want to] congratulate River, who are the champion and won the cup.”

Boca had an appeal to be awarded the Libertadores title rejected by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) on Saturday.

After CONMEBOL dismissed Boca’s appeal, the Argentine giants took their case to CAS but they were unsuccessful as the match took place at the home of Real Madrid.

“Sometimes it seems that we are incorrigible,” Schelotto said. “There’s very little we can learn from the people here and from this stadium. I hope we learn a lot, but sometimes we seem incorrigible. It seems that if this final repeats itself in a few years, it won’t be able be played [in Argentina].

“In our country, during these days, they said that it was normal for you to be thrown a stone when the visiting bus arrives. No, it’s not normal … it’s abnormal to throw a stone at a bus.

“It’s like entering a shop and throwing a stone at someone. Hopefully these things change, but in the sporting aspect it’s done, River won.”

EU Meets With INEC Ahead Of 2019 Election

eu3-768x576The European Union has pledged its committed to assist the Independent National Electoral Commission in conducting a free and fair elections in the country.

It says it will provide all that is necessary in making the elections free and fair and ensuring its a credible one.

Head of the EU Delegation to Nigeria, Ketil Karlson, who made the pledge to newsmen on Thursday in Abuja, said the Union had committed over 100 million euros to Nigeria’s democracy since 1999.

He was speaking after a meeting of some EU ambassadors to Nigeria with a delegation of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) led by its Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu.eu4

Karlson said the meeting with the INEC delegation afforded it the opportunity to assess the level of preparation and further look at other areas of collaboration that would enhance credibility of the 2019 general elections.

The EU delegation head expressed confidence that INEC would conduct a free and credible election come 2019, noting that the EU had supported the commission in various ways.

”We have since 1999 provided more than 100m Euros in support of democratic processes in Nigeria.

”I have a very good piece of news for everyone that our high representative and vice president has just now approved that we will have again a long time observation mission here next year,” he said.

eu2

The supports which entails institutional and technical, according to the EU are aimed at ensuring elections in the country are free, fair, credible and peaceful.

Karlson said that as part of its support to Nigeria’s democracy, the EU had just concluded tours of the six geopolitical zones, educating youths and women on the essence of participating in the 2019 general elections.

“EU has been supporting INEC for a very long time; it is not something that we started doing just ahead of the elections.

“As a matter of fact, we have been providing institutional and technical supports to INEC for a very long time,” he said.

He said the meeting with INEC delegation had afforded the union the opportunity to discuss inclusiveness, the importance of participation of people with disability, the importance of women and youth.

Mahmood-Yakubu

Sometimes there are quick fixes, things that can be done without great investment to ensure that these people have better access to voting also,” he said.

INEC Chairman, Prof. Yakubu, said that the commission was fully prepared to conduct an election that would be an improvement on previous ones.

Yakubu said the yet to be signed Electoral Amendment Act would not affect the commission in any way as INEC had been conducting itself within the ambit of the law.

“For us, there is no legal lacuna as a law exists, but if it is accented to, then we will abide by the provisions of the new law, but as we speak, there is no legal lacuna.

”We have taken the actions we have taken so far legitimately under the provisions of the law as it exists and nothing has changed,” he said.

EU-1

The INEC chairman also assured that steps had been taken to guarantee an all inclusive elections.

He said the commission was looking at all possibilities that would ensure people with disabilities exercise their franchise.

“For the first time in Anambra, we introduced magnifying glasses for those with visual impairment, in the Osun election, we introduced tactile balloting, meaning that those with visual impairment who can read with brail and can vote are assisted,” he said.

6 dead, dozens hurt in Italy nightclub stampede

Italy_Nightclub_Stampede_72324At least six people died and dozens were injured in a stampede when panic broke out during a rap concert at an Italian nightclub early Saturday.

Media reports said the suspected use of a pepper spray-like substance sparked the chaos at the venue in the town of Corinaldo, near Ancona in central Italy.

The cause may have been the dispersal of a stinging substance, the young people fled and trampled over each other. Sadly, six people died and dozens are injured,” the fire service said in a statement on Twitter.

The victims include five people under the age of 18 — three girls and two boys – and an adult woman who accompanied her daughter to the concert.

Local fire chief Dino Poggiali said that 14 of the injured were in a critical condition, and 40 less serious.italyfeed

As the crowd panicked, people ran for the three emergency exits, one of which led to a small bridge and the car park, according to a preliminary investigation.

The force of the fleeing crowd made a railing collapse and dozens of people fell, crushing those below to death.

– ‘You can’t die like that! –

A pile of abandoned shoes testified to the chaos of the stampede, with survivors and the bereaved weeping outside the nightclub as emergency vehicles tended to the injured, local newspaper Ancona Today reported.

“It can’t be! You can’t die like that. Wake up Mattia, I beg you,” one unnamed woman cried as she knelt by her son’s body, the paper said.

Around 1,000 people — many of them young — were in the Lanterna Azzurra (Blue Lantern) club for a performance by Italian rapper Sfera Ebbasta, known as “the king of the trap” for his style of Hip Hop.1d2e1dcea16f48e9bdc4de07c159bc0a_18

The accident happened at around 1am (0000 GMT).

“We were dancing and waiting for the concert to start when we smelt this pungent odour,” a 16-year-old boy who was taken to hospital told the media.

“We ran to one of the emergency exits but we found it blocked, the bouncers told us to go back.”

The injured were taken to hospital in the nearby town of Senigallia and the most serious on to Ancona.

In 2017, a woman died and 1,500 were injured in a crush during the outdoor broadcast in Turin of a Champions League football match final when rumours of a bombing sparked panic.

Around 30,000 people had gathered in June last year to watch the broadcast from Cardiff, Wales, of the local team Juventus play Real Madrid when pepper spray was shot into the crowd as part of a robbery attempt.

Erika Pioletti, 38, died two weeks later after being left in a coma by the crush. She had gone to watch the game in the square with her boyfriend.

Eight people were arrested on suspicion of causing the scramble by dispersing the irritating substance.

Buhari In Trouble, As International Court Contemplates On Teaching Him How To Do His Job

buhari-thinks2040547761.jpgThe International Criminal Court, ICC, has said it was examining the farmers-herders crisis in Nigeria. This crisis which should have been the primary responsibility of our President  is now about to be handled by an international body. The Lead prosecutor of the ICC, Fatou Bensouda, who disclosed this at The Hague, Netherlands, while presenting the annual report of ICC activities for 2018, on Wednesday, said the ICC was examining available information to determine whether there was reasonable basis to believe that the crimes allegedly committed fall under its jurisdiction.

In the preliminary examinations report, which addresses many countries, including Nigeria, the ICC said from January to June 2018, over 1,300 people were killed and 300,000 displaced as a result of clashes between herders and farmers in five states.
The report stated: “From January to June 2018, over 1,300 people were reportedly killed as a result of violence between herders and settlers in Plateau, Benue, Nasarawa, Adamawa and Taraba states and about 300,000 persons were displaced.

Fulani Herdsmen“Furthermore, the office received communications on attacks allegedly carried out by herders and Christian settlers in the context of the violence in Nigeria’s North Central and North East geographical zones.
‘’This violence, which has been observed by the office since 2016, is often referred to as a conflict between herders and Christian farmers, stemming from limited access to water, land and other resources.”

The report, which noted that violence in the country, grew worse between 2017 and 2018, stated further: “The escalation of violence in late 2017 and 2018 is reportedly the result of the rise of ethnic militias and community vigilantes and the passage of grazing laws in some of the affected states that reportedly imposed restrictions on herders, among others.”buhari-sad11719889396.jpg

“Militias are also reported to have clashed with security men deployed in the affected area to address the deteriorating security situation.
“Some of the attacks on civilians were allegedly committed by criminal gangs involved in cattle-rustling that were subsequently blamed on herders.
‘’The Office has reviewed these communications and continues to gather additional information to determine whether there is a reasonable basis to believe that the crimes allegedly committed in this context fall under ICC jurisdiction.”

The Federal Executive Council, approved the 2019 budget proposal.

1..-President-Buhari-Presides-over-FEC-by-Novo-IsioroThe approval was granted at Friday’s special session presided over by  President Muhammadu Buhari.

The meeting which started by 10:30am lasted  till around 1:00.pm at the Presidential Villa.

Briefing State House Correspondents at the end of FEC meeting at the presidential villa, Abuja, the Minister of Budget and Planning, Udoma Udoma said the Council will liaise with the National Assembly to determine when the president will submit the draft estimates for the consideration of the two chambers.

He however did not give details of the proposal when asked by newsmen, noting that  the Nigerian constitution only allows the president to give out the details and he will do so when the National Assembly is ready to receive the draft.

The FEC had on 24th October approved the Medium Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF) and Fiscal Strategy Paper (FSP) for the 2019 -2021 to provide template for the 2019 budget.

The session which was presided over by President Buhari approved a budget estimate of N8.73tr for the 2019 budget, N400bn lower than that of this year.

It will be recalled that, Udoma, had last month announced that the Federal Government was considering a leaner 2019 budget of N8.6 trillion, which is leaner than the N9.1 trillion approved by lawmakers for 2018.

He had explained at a consultative forum on the medium term expenditure framework (MTEF) and fiscal strategy paper (FSP) 2019-2021, that the decision was due to reduced government revenue projection for the year.

Udoma also said government planned to cut down the level of borrowing from N1.6 trillion in 2018 to N1.5 trillion in 2019, while the deficit component would be reduced from N1.9 trillion in 2018 to N1.6 trillion.

In spite of  the recent oil output drop to about 1.9 million barrels a day, Udoma said government was optimistic the 2.3 million barrels a day target was achievable with production now rising to about 2.15 million barrels a day and new oil productions being put into play.

Although a $50 per barrel oil price benchmark was proposed in the ERGP, the minister had expressed confidence that with a significant rise in the price above $80 per barrel currently, government has proposed a $60 per barrel oil price for the budget.

Udoma had added that N305 was proposed as exchange rate to the dollar, with government working to keep inflation down after slight increases in the last two months on the heels of 18 months consecutive decline.

The projected target gross domestic product (GDP) growth rate for the budget was put at 3.01 per cent, reduced from 4.5 per cent in the ERGP; 3.6 per cent in 2020 and 3.9 per cent in 2021.

“Growth is expected to increase from 0.8 per cent in 2017 to 2.1 per cent this year and 3.01 per cent in 2019 with the continued implementation of the ERGP in 2019 and improved outlook for oil prices,” he said.

On revenue, Udoma had said based on the oil price and oil production assumptions, government expected to generate about N3.6 trillion from oil, up by about N500 billion from last year’s figure.

About N6.9 trillion revenue is projected to be available to the budget in 2019.

With other projections showing government expects to collect less revenue from some independent sources, he said only about N624 billion is expected to be realised, against about N847 billion in the 2018 budget, among others.

Messi is a better player than Ronaldo because he dribbles better-Neymar

Paris Saint Germain striker Neymar Jnr has revealed Lionel Messi is a better player than Juventus forward Cristiano Ronaldo.  The 26-year-old, who dropped from the Ballon d’Or podium to 12th position this year, is considered one of the best players in the current game.ronaldo-and-messi886149806.png

During a Q&A on his YouTube channel on Wednesday, the Brazilian was asked the question many football fans have debated over the past few years: who the better player between Messi and Ronaldo is.

“Ronaldo has gone from a winger to a striker and a goalscorer,” Neymar answered, as quoted by the Daily Express. “Rather than taking players on all the time, he has gone more one or two touches, getting in the box and scoring goals.messi-ronaldo-32088407795.jpg

“Messi a bit of everything – you see him scoring goals from playing probably a deep midfield role at times, and where I’m probably still walking on the pitch, he’s scoring. “So he is probably the best.”

Neymar scored his 11th Ligue 1 goal of the season in PSG’s 2-2 draw with Bordeaux last Sunday – it was also his 30th league goals since joining the French giants.

500 policemen deployed to Lagos Island for Crime and Traffic Control

nigeria_police_-690x450926851147.jpgThe Lagos State Police Command has deployed additional five hundred policemen to various routes on the Lagos Island with special focus on Apogbon, TBS, Eko Hotels and environs.

This was done to boost the number of personnel already at various points in the area.
The deployment was necessitated by the following events coming up on the Island which includes: The Experience, Adekunle Gold Concert and the Davido Concert.nigeriapolice942509373.jpg

Also factored in the strategy are people who would be embarking on religious pilgrimage to RCCG Holy Ghost Congress at Redeem Camp and Shiloh at the Winners’ Chapel.

Expectedly, the aforementioned events will lead to surge in vehicular and human traffic thereby bringing additional pressure to the already strained traffic situation in the commercial city resulting in gridlock.man-arrested-by-nigerian-police-for-looting-during-strike-1024x6611277962361.jpg

To ameliorate the foreseen situation, the state Commissioner of Police, CP Edgal Imohimi directed that five hundred policemen be posted to Lagos Island to boost the number of men already on ground in order to prevent crime and ensure smooth flow of traffic.

The CP warns criminals who might want to take advantage of the upcoming events to stay away from the Island and indeed the state as anyone caught will be summarily dealt with.

Mourinho makes rare promise ahead of Fulham clash

jose-mourinho-manchester-united-2017-18_ml7rh65s2kpw14z7l6x1tjf56Manchester United manager, Jose Mourinho is not one to shy away from making bold statements and despite facing a difficult period this season, he has promised fans victory against Fulham on Saturday.

The Red Devils have won just one and drawn three out of their last four matches in all competitions and are desperate to regain their winning touch against the Cottagers led by former Leicester City and Chelsea manager, Claudio Ranieri.

“I want to be positive and think we are going to win but if we don’t give credit to the people that deserve credit and the game is not going to be 11 against 0 it’s going to be 11 against 11, good players in other side, I repeat the position, the points sometimes don’t say much about the real potential of the team, one of the two most important managers in the history of the Premier League, so they have the potential to come here tomorrow and to give us a very different match.”

He continues: “I know only two days is not easy Fulham in the same situation as us but probably the way they are coming to play or try to play will not demand as much from them as us but no excuses, I sat here a few weeks ago speaking about December month and no defeats that’s a reality, good fights, good spirit, but just one victory against Young Boys and three draws and we need points, but Fulham is the same, they need points.”

Manchester United are currently placed eight on the premier league log with 23 points while Fulham sit bottom with just nine points.

Popular OAP Hanged Herself After Walking Out Of Studio During Her Show

images-1-2

A BBC radio presenter hanged herself at home just hours after she unexpectedly walked out of a studio midway through her drivetime show, an inquest heard.

Vicki Archer, 41, had told colleagues at BBC Radio Shropshire that she needed “a break” and was feeling “upset”.

The hearing was told that the divorced mum-of-three suffered from depression and had made two previous attempts to take her own life.

A coroner has ruled that Ms Archer, who was found dead at her home in Shrewsbury on August 6, intended to take her own life.images-3

She left work at about 5pm and was found by her stepfather, Lee Holyoake, around three hours later, after knocks at her door went unanswered.

In the days leading up to her death, Ms Archer had retweeted posts about inner demons and mental health issues.

She also shared links to the Samaritans’ hotline number and wrote about “hurtful gossip” describing it as “corrosive”.

Shropshire Coroner John Ellery concluded Ms Archer died as a result of suicide.

He said: “My conclusion is Victoria did do the act that led to her death.images-2-2

“She intended to kill herself, and that leads me to the inevitable conclusion of suicide.

“This is a tragic case for her family and our condolences are and must be with her children.”

Ms Archer was due to present BBC Radio Shropshire with co-host Adam Green between 3-7pm on August 6 this year.

But she left the studio shortly before 5pm and returned to her home in Shrewsbury, Shrops.

She was found dead by Mr Holyoake, 64, at around 8.15pm that day.

He had visited to fix her cooker along with the radio presenter’s 73-year-old mum Beryl.

Mr Holyoake described using a neighbour’s ladder to climb in through an open bedroom window after getting no answer when he tried knocking the door.

In his statement, Mr Holyoake said “alarm bells started to ring” after he and Ms Archer’s mother were told she had left work early and got no response when knocking at her door.
He said: “I couldn’t get the key into the door because there was a key on the other side.

“I noticed Victoria’s bedroom window was open and I managed to get a ladder from one of her neighbours.

“I got in through the bedroom window.

“I called my wife to come and assist me. She said to check the loft.

“As I checked the right hand side of the loft, I saw Victoria in the corner.”

Shropshire Coroners Court heard Lee carried out CPR but nothing could be done to save her life.

The inquest was told Ms Archer had a blood-alcohol level slightly over the drink-drive limit as well as some traces of medication in her blood.

But the post-mortem examination suggested alcohol and drugs did not play a part in her death.

BREAKING: Catholic Church bars Rev. Fr. Mbaka

mbaka-3-2The Catholic Secretariat of Nigeria has reiterated that Catholic Priests under the canon law of the Church are barred from active involvement in Partisan Politics.

This reaction is coming shortly after an altercation between controversial catholic Priest, Rev. Father Ejike Mbaka, Spiritual director of Adoration Ministries, Enugu and Ex-governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi.Mbaka-1

CSN’s Secretary General, Rev. Fr. Ralph Madu, who spoke to journalists at a press conference, in Abuja on Thursday said that the Catholic church was disappointed with the altercation and had asked appropriate authorities to take necessary action.

“While we are sure that Enugu Catholic Diocese, where Fr. Mbaka is incardinated, has or is taking appropriate measures on the reported incident, we wish to categorically reiterate that no Catholic priest is permitted to be involved in partisan politics.Rev. Mbaka

All liturgical ceremonies must never be used as an occasion for campaigns ahead of 2019 political activities. Catholic church remains apolitical and would never support or subscribe to any political party.

Our concern is for peaceful election process, seen to be free, fair, credible and just, and a democratic governance that would herald peace, justice, equity, development and religious freedom for the common good.”mbaka-3-2

Mbaka has faced criticisms online over his ’embarrassment’ of Obi during the church’s recent Bazaar.

Jesse Lingard still believes Man U to make top four

JESSEJesse Lingard insisted there is still time for Manchester United to make up ground in their fading quest for Champions League qualification.

Only 15 matches have been played in the Premier League but United are already eighth and eight points adrift of the top four following Wednesday’s entertaining 2-2 draw at home to Arsenal.jesselingard-cropped_1gtcu8jidqgxf1n8veb56gt16q

Anthony Martial and Lingard helped rescue a point for United but the Red Devils’ winless streak in the league extended to four games as they fell 18 points behind leaders Manchester City.

United manager Jose Mourinho has cut a frustrated figure and cast doubt over the club’s top-four hopes, however, Lingard remains positive.Jesse-Lingard-Manchester-United1

“I think we believe as a squad,” he said. “There’s a long way to go in the season, so for us it’s about taking every game as it comes and trying to get the three points.

“That’s the main thing. There are a lot of games, especially this month, so we need everyone in the squad to be fully fit.”lingard

Lingard added: “There’s always pressure on people’s shoulders when it comes to Man United and it’s how you deal with the pressure.

“And as footballers we just enjoy our football and want to win games. That’s the main thing.”

United welcome bottom side Fulham to Old Trafford on Saturday, looking to claim their first Premier League victory since November 2.

Court Delivers Shocking Judgement ON Ganduje Bribe Scandal

ganduje-gate-1-e15409746371252084644951.jpgInvestigations into the bribery allegation against Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje may never see the light of the day again as a High Court in Kano State has ruled that the House of Assembly has no power to probe the matter.

Ganduje had been under a probe by the assembly over video clips showing him allegedly receiving kickbacks from some contractors.kano-governor-ganduje151976055.jpg

The governor Ganduje had approached court and challenged the power of the lawmakers to investigate him.

The presiding judge, Justice Ahmed Badamasi, yesterday averted that the first and second defendants, (the assembly and its seven-man investigative committee) lacked powers to investigate the matter.

He ruled that the defendants could not investigate the bribery allegation against the complainant.governor-ganduje327134356.jpg

Badamasi declared that the publisher of the online newspaper, Daily Nigeria, Jaafar Jaafar, that released the video clips, should have handed them over to the police or any anti-graft agency as they are the only bodies that have powers to investigate bribery allegations.

“An order of injunction is hereby made preventing the parties from conducting further investigation in respect of the matter,” he ruled.

Badamas, who backed his judgment with Sections 128 ( 2) and 129 of the constitution, declared that the assembly had no right or power to conduct criminal investigation against the governor.

Counsel to the assembly, Mohammed Waziri, later told journalists that he would consult his clients on whether they would appeal the judgement or not.

The third defendant, who is also the state’s Attorney-General, Ibrahim Muktar, expressed satisfaction with the judgement.

With Ganduje enjoying immunity and another four-year term almost a sure bet, there appears very little that can be done to the governor who has already promised President Buhari 5 million votes from Kano in 2019.

Emery reveals the things he has learnt in the Premier League

The manager Unai Emery says Arsenal must pay Huddersfield respect when David Wagner’s side visit the Emirates and then they’ve got to secure three points. After a very poor start to the season, the visitors pulled clear of the relegation zone with two wins and a draw in November, however, that upturn in form has been curtailed this week by consecutive defeats to Brighton and Bournemouth. Having watched the Terriers beat Wolves, just days after Nuno Espirito Santo’s side had drawn with his side, Emery remains wary of their eagerness to spring a surprise on Saturday while also revealing things he has learnt since moving from French Ligue 1 to the English Premier League.

I’ve learnt in the Premier League that every team has good players, good organisation, good possibilities in the 90 minutes against every team,” said Emery at his pre-game press conference on Thursday. “On Saturday, the first thing is a very big respect, more than Manchester United, more than Tottenham, because we need a high level in our performance to win against them.

At the beginning, sure we need a high level individually and collectively. On Tuesday against Bournemouth, they [Huddersfield] played a very good match.

“Also they won at [Wolves] in the last match away. On Saturday, they are going to push a lot and [will want] a surprise. We are very convinced in our way – work, prepare, respect, push with our supporters at the Emirates and feel the spirit with them.”

The Gunners, hit by new injuries to Rob Holding and Aaron Ramsey, have had a tough week themselves, although four points from matches with Spurs and Manchester United mean the vibe in the camp is positive.

“This is a very big challenge this week,” he added. “We are going to finish Saturday against Huddersfield. At the moment we have a good feeling after a good result, but we need to close with a victory on Saturday. “It’s important first that the supporters feel a good situation in the games against Tottenham and Manchester United, away it’s a big challenge for us. “We drew back and we worked to win and, with a little more luck, we could have won the match.

“Now our focus is all on Huddersfield and the three points. It’s a team that is very well organised. They played in Bournemouth, they lost but played well. They won at [Wolves] and every team has good players and organisation here in the Premier League. “We need the same spirit as on Sunday. Every supporter needs to feel that with us, and push like they pushed against Tottenham. The draw yesterday is only good if we win against Huddersfield.”

Manchester Utd will loose N18.5B if they sack Mourinho and replace him with Pochettino

Manchester United are planning to replace Beleaguered boss Jose Mourinho with Tottenham’s Mauricio Pochettino but it will cost them a whopping £40m to get the former Espanyol boss. The Old Trafford hierarchy have decided the Tottenham boss is the ONLY contender to replace Jose Mourinho next summer.

And a clause in Mourinho’s contract means it will cost United less to sack the Portuguese if they are not in the Champions League. United face a battle with Real Madrid over Poch, 46. But, despite the current turmoil, they believe they can sell the Red Devils as the more attractive proposition.

Image result for Pochettino and Mourinho

Spurs chairman Daniel Levy, who sold Michael Carrick and Dimitar Berbatov to United on his watch, faces a huge battle to keep his manager. Poch is determined to lead Spurs into their new stadium in the new year and signed a five-year, £8m-a-season deal only last summer. Plus, he turned down United in 2016 when they fired Louis van Gaal. But that has not put off Woodward.

United are a staggering 18 points behind Premier League leaders Manchester City and knows he is on borrowed time at Old Trafford.
Spurs have finished in the top four in three successive seasons under Poch, who joined them from Southampton in 2014. But the Argentine is also frustrated with lack of investment at Tottenham — who were the only Prem club NOT to sign a player in the summer — and he has spoken many times about the need for fresh blood.

Fabregas will not remain in Maurizio Sarri’s Chelsea- Wolves

AntonioRudigerAndreasChristensenChelseabcxcwnkbtFkl

Sarri’s top man Jorginho rested at Molineux in anticipation of Saturday’s cruncher against Manchester City, Fabregas was drafted in for his first Premier League start of the season and told to pull the strings in front of the defence while Kante was again deployed further forward. Never the quickest, Fabregas’ legs aren’t even what they were in 2010 when he set up the winning goal in the World Cup Final.Eden-Hazard-5-1068x580

He is still elegant, excellent in possession and retains the necessary hunger, as a crucial last-ditch tackle to deny teenager Morgan Gibbs-White a goal underlined. Aesthetically, few can match Fabregas.

Image result for Fabregas+Wolves 2-1 CHelsea

But when Wolves upped the tempo in the second half, he struggled and if Wolves can over-run the Chelsea midfield, even without their best player Ruben Neves, you’d fear for Fabregas against the very best opposition. But Wolves manager Nuno Esperito Santo clearly told his players during the interval to get into Chelsea’s faces, and Fabregas couldn’t live with the intensity.ed9e172c106d20237ba66a15011f55fe

Fabregas still produced an impressive range of passing from his quarterback position but was unable to make any real impact. When he tried to dribble forward, two Wolves players would be on him. It was too much. Maybe next time he’s asked to dictate play for Chelsea, it should be at Stamford Bridge rather than at a hostile away ground where the home fans were jumping.

2019: Atiku Blast Oshiomhole, says he’ll retire Buhari to Daura

Atiku1The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has reacted to claim by the All Progressives Congress, APC, National Chairman, Adams Oshiomhole that he will lose the 2019 presidential election.

Oshiomhole had yesterday said God will punish both former President Olusegun Obasanjo and Abubakar which will translate in President Muhammadu Buhari defeating them in 2019.b721b8ec-adams-oshiomhole

He had spoken to newsmen after receiving APC women leaders from Edo State in his office in Aso drive, Abuja.

The former Edo State governor reminded Obasanjo that he swore that God should punish him if he ever supports Atiku to become the president.

Reacting to Oshiomhole’s remark, Abubakar, through his Media Aide, Paul Ibe said Buhari would be retired to his Daura home town after 2019 elections.buhari-and-oshiomole940796305.png

Ibe warned that the APC National Chairman should prepare for the fate that awaits him, President Buhari and his party in 2019.

Speaking with Vanguard, Ibe said, “It is not political soothsayers like Oshiomhole that will determine the outcome of the elections but let it be known to him that President Buhari will not only be defeated, he will be retired to his beloved Daura in 2019.Buhari-Atiku

“Does Oshiomhole think that Nigerians are fools? What will determine the direction of votes are the insecurity challenges, job losses, pain, anguish, and economic strangulation that this incompetent government has subjected Nigerians.

“For Atiku, it is about jobs; for Buhari, it is hopelessness. For Atiku, it is about opportunities; for Buhari, it is insensitivity. For Atiku, it is about inclusiveness; for Buhari, it is clannishness. Atiku is all about Getting Nigeria Working Again.oshiomole-1754493158.png

“So, we urge Oshiomhole to keep his peace and allow Nigerians, who have passed through hell in the hands of his principal, to cast their votes in a transparent, free and fair election.”

Bayern Munich President Blast Juventus Because Of Ronaldo!

Cristiano-Ronaldo-Juventus-Real-Madrid-news-1052921

The arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo at Juventus last summer surprised many, with some scepticism surrounding the deal even now, despite the player’s magnificent start at the Allianz Stadium. One of these sceptics is Bayern president Uli Hoeness, who spoke about the deal in an interview with Bild.ronaldo-juventus347045396.jpg

“We would have signed Ronaldo with our eyes closed for 100 million euro if he was 24, but he is already 33, he’s too old,” Hoeness said. While Ronaldo did join Juve this past summer, he helped the Los Blancos win the UEFA Champions League last season and he found the back of the net 15 times, assisting three times in the competition. Allegri though, was asked about Ronaldo and if he deserved to win the Ballon D’or that Luka Modric won yesterday in the award ceremony. ronaldo-987671112317738.jpgThe bianconeri boss said that Ronaldo did deserve to win the prize because of his performances in the UEFA Champions League.ronaldo-juve-goal1204120002.jpg

He told Tuttosport: “Cristiano Ronaldo would have deserved the Ballon d’Or because of what he did in the Champions League Real Madrid. With Portugal at the World Cup later, he could not really go. But the victory of Luka Modric will be a stimulus for him, to do even better and regain the sixth trophy next year with Juventus.Cristiano-Ronaldo-Juventus-Real-Madrid-news-1052921

”He has increased the great level of professionalism that has always been at Juventus. He is an extraordinary player, a humble guy who has entered very well in the group and adds great competitiveness in every training. “He is an example for young people, despite his successes and 33 years he still takes care of every detail. To get to his level the technical qualities, its still not enough for him.”
