Liverpool loanee Marko Grujic has had his say on the never-ending Cristiano Ronaldo-Lionel Messi debate, after he was seen replicating the Juventus star’s signature celebration in Hertha Berlin’s game against Schalke last Friday.

Despite the fact that Messi and Ronaldo now play in two different leagues, the comparison between the duo remains.

The Barcelona ace and the Juventus star remain at the top of their game, even a decade after their rivalry began, winning several trophies for their teams and individual accolades for their performances. While Ronaldo has netted 15 Serie A goals so far this season, Messi has scored 19 in La Liga.

Grujic, who is currently on loan at Hertha Berlin, was asked to wade into the debate after he was seen celebrating in the same way that Ronaldo does, after scoring the equaliser during a game against Schalke on Friday.

When Grujic was asked whether he was trying to replicate the five-time Ballon d’Or winner, the 22-year-old insisted that the celebration was not planned at all.

Speaking to Bild, he said, “Pure emotion. I could not control it, it just happened like that.”

messi_ronaldo_siteThe Serbia international added that while he thinks Messi is the better player, Ronaldo is still a massive inspiration for him.

“I look up to Ronaldo. He is a great role model for me. Because he works obsessively on his development. I love to live football as professionally as possible and to subordinate everything to it. Messi may be the more talented player, but Ronaldo has worked it all out,” said Grujic.

Grujic has had a difficult spell at Hertha Berlin after his injury problems saw him play only nine league games so far.

Hertha will next face Wolfsburg in the Bundesliga on Saturday, February 2.

‘Everyone is free to think of me however they want to’- Lionel Messi

lionel-messi-cropped_6khnpodnzc3g1s80dva0xuhm0313094635.jpgBarcelona captain Lionel Messi has opened up about the legacy that he would like to leave at the Catalan club, and how he wishes to be remembered when he finally hangs up his boots.

The Argentine maestro has come a long way since his younger days in La Masia, achieving unprecedented success both for the club and himself in his long career.

The 31-year-old is now a hero in the eyes of the Catalonia faithful, establishing himself as one of the best, if not the best, players to ever don the Barcelona shirt.

Messi boasts of being the club’s all-time top scorer and continues to add to his ever-growing tally of goals in almost every game. Apart from LaLiga and Champions League titles, the Barca captain also boasts of an incredible five Ballon d’Or awards, a record shared with Juventus star Cristiano Ronaldo. messi-and-Cristiano

In an exclusive interview with Unisport, Messi has opened up about the legacy he wishes to leave, stating that it does not matter as everyone will stick to a certain opinion of him in the end.

“In the end, everyone will remember and think of you what they want – and they’re free to do so.”lionel-messi-barcelona-real-madrid-060518_e99nghfn3muy1vlhccwso8v1d1099469055.jpg

When asked about his record Ballons d’Or, the Argentine said, “Well, I don’t think I’ve done anything decisive to achieve success or win titles. It comes when God decides and chooses, there’s no fixed time.”

Messi has helped Barcelona to the top of the Spanish league table, where they sit four points clear of second-placed Atletico Madrid, with 49 points.

The table-toppers are scheduled to face Sevilla in the crucial second leg of the Copa del Rey quarter finals later tonight.

Pep Guardiola confident Manchester City will beat Liverpool to the Premier League

Manchester City manager, Pep Guardiola is refusing to give up on the Premier League title despite the prospect of falling seven points behind Liverpool.

Pep Guardiola is refusing to give up on the Premier League title after Manchester City's 2-1 loss

Manchester City lost for the fourth time at Newcastle last night despite taking a lead inside 24 seconds through Sergio Aguero. Leaders Liverpool entertain Leicester on Wednesday evening, but Guardiola said: ‘If they win it’s a lot of points (to be behind). But it’s January, it’s not April or May. There are many games. We won’t give up. It’s more difficult now, but we have the chances to do it and we know we have to win games. When you are behind you cannot drop points.’portugal-vs-uruguay-3571166265.jpg

Of the performance, he said: ‘It wasn’t our best. We got that goal but during the whole game we didn’t have the rhythm we need to impose our game. The early goal did not help us. ‘And when you don’t take the chances then the game stays open, so congratulations Newcastle.’ The Magpies are set to break their transfer record with the £20.5million signing of Miguel Almiron and will add defender Antonio Barreca on loan from Monaco. They are also in talks with Benfica midfielder Andreas Samaris.

Salomon Rondon scored the equaliser for Newcastle at St James' Park on Tuesday evening

That news coupled with a victory which takes them to 14th lightened Benitez’s mood on a day which began with him refusing to commit to the club beyond the transfer window. ‘I did not know where we were (with transfers), but they told me before the game we are progressing. It could be good news for us, but the main thing is we sign what we need, not the price. I have confidence that we will do the right things to stay up. You have to stay calm. If people around trust you, then you have more chances to win,’ said the Spaniard.pep-guardiola-640x400

Benitez saw Salomon Rondo equalise on 66 minutes before Matt Ritchie smashed home a penalty 10 minutes from time. And he added: ‘We had a game plan, which was obviously not to concede in the first minute. But the reaction of the players was very good. We said at half-time we had to stay in game and we’d have chances. We needed to win one of these games which have been so close (against the top sides), and luckily this was the one. But the best game will be the one which keeps us up.’

Guardiola said it wasn't City's best performance as they struggled to break down Newcastle

Ritchie was the match-winner but he admits morale has not been good of late. ‘The place has been low, I have to be honest,’ he said. ‘But we kept believing and kept working hard. We beat Man United at home last season and that was a turning point, so hopefully, this can be.’ Ritchie had to wait two minutes to take his spot-kick after Fernandinho fouled Sean Longstaff, and he said: ‘I was going to place it but it was so long I just decided to smash it!’

Álvaro Odriozola is the player with the most assists in this Spanish Copa del Rey [ 4, alongside with Vinicius Júnior. Incredibly good 45 mins from them. It should have been 4-1 so far.

He has played 15 games this season in all competitions for Real Madrid who are currently occupying the third position on the Spanish La Liga standings with 39 points after 21 games. Malcolm emerged as a transfer target for Arsenal as the Premier League side are hoping to snap the Brazilian on deadline day. Arsenal has proposed for a loan deal for the misfit Barcelona striker during negotiations for midfielder Denis Suarez. The 21-year-old has been unable to nail a starting shirt in Ernesto Valverde’s side this season but the club’s hierarchy still rate him highly and are not willing to sell him.

The Gunners missed the last edition of the UEFA Champions League last season, before departure of long term serving manager Arsene Wenger in 2018. they are set to come back to play that could be if they can win the race to get a place in the Premier League top four this season. following a number of injury crisis rocking the team if a move for defender breaks down within few days Unai Emery will be left with the youth team players and that could ruin their hopes of getting a positive result by the end of the season.  Arsenal has currently seated at 5th position behind rivals Chelsea. they hope to continue their chase as the face Cardiff City on Sunday evening.

Traditional African names often have unique stories behind them. From the day or time a baby is born to the circumstances surrounding the birth, several factors influence the names parents choose for their children. Whichever ethnic group you look at, these local names reveal a wealth of information about the bearer. Here are nine different ways African parents name their children:pray-for-grace

Among several ethnic groups, picking out names can be influenced by positive or negative circumstances the family finds themselves in around the time a child is born. Often, such names are complete sentences. Ayodele (joy has come home) is a unisex name for a baby whose birth brought happiness to their Yoruba parents in Nigeria. Yetunde or Yewande (mother has come back) is a Yoruba name given to a girl whose grandmother or other female relative died before she was born. Adetokunbo (crown/wealth has come back home) is a unisex Yoruba name often given to a child born abroad.

Ajuji (born on a rubbish heap) is a Hausa name given to a baby after those born before it failed to survive. It is believed that giving the child a “terrible” name will deceive evil spirits into thinking the child is not loved and as a result, allow it to live. Kgomotso and Pumza (comfort) are given to babies born shortly after a death or tragedy in Sesotho and Xhosa families in South Africa. Kiptanui and Cheptanui are often given to babies whose mothers may have suffered extreme difficulties during childbirth among the Kalenjin ethnic group in Kenya.

INEC removed Amina Zakari from Collation center of the Presidential poll results

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has excluded Amina Zakari and other national commissioners from the collation of presidential poll results.

The electoral body had initially designated Zakari to lead the collation center during the Presidential election on February 16th.

This followed a public outcry with many claiming that Zakari is a relative of President Buhari, an allegation that has been denied by the Presidency and Zakari herself.

According to The Nation newspaper, the collation of election results would be done at the collation secretariat and not the collation centre.

“No national commissioner is in charge of collation of presidential poll results. It is true that there is what is called collation centre but it is separate from the collation secretariat, which is responsible for the collation of results.

“No national commissioner will be appointed into the secretariat committee. So, Hajiya Amina Zakari or any national commissioner does not have anything to do with the collation of results.” a source told the Nation

Executive Order 007 Of 2019 To Boost Private Sector -Finance Minister

Minister of Finance, Mrs. Zainab Ahmed, has explained that the Executive Order 007 of 2019 on the Road Infrastructure Development and Refurbishment Investment Tax Credit Scheme will provide the much-needed private capital for infrastructure development in the country.

“The scheme will incentive private sector investment in Nigerian roads across key economic corridors and industrial clusters, relieving the government of the burden of funding the initial outlays for these investments,” she said in a statement by her Special Adviser, Mr. Paul Abechi, yesterday. According to her, relevant provisions of the Companies Income Tax Act empower “Mr. President to authorise the exemption from corporate taxation, for certain companies or groups of companies, by way of the issuance of tax credits.” The new scheme, she said, “is based on the demand for road projects by companies and other corporate sponsors, who are willing to deploy their own working capital and financial resources to fund road projects located in the major economic corridors of the country where they have significant businesses and operations.

“In terms of process and governance, prospective road projects are to be submitted to the government via the scheme’s management committee. “After carefully considering submissions by investors, the management committee will forward the proposals, through the chairman of the committee, to Mr. President, who is empowered, pursuant to the Executive Order, to select eligible road projects.”

According to her, once approved, the eligible road projects would be published in an official gazette, and modalities would be agreed upon with the investors to accelerate the implementation of the projects, the verification of eligible project costs, as well as the issuance of tax credit certificates to the Investors. The Executive Order also provides mechanisms for groups of investors to pool funds together to invest in road projects – directly; jointly through special purpose vehicles; or indeed, in collaboration with institutional investors such as Pension Fund Administrators, Collective Investment Schemes, Insurance Companies and Investment Banks.

These measures have been adopted to enhance the ease of accessibility to the Scheme’s benefits by prospective Investors. The minister disclosed that in the pilot phase of the scheme, six private sector players in the construction industry would  execute the Executive Order 7. They include Dangote Industries Limited, Lafarge Africa Plc, Unilever Nigeria Plc, Flour Mills of Nigeria Plc, Nigeria LNG Limited, and China Road and Bridge Corporation Nigeria Limited. “These investors will be investing in the following 19 eligible road projects, totalling 794.4km, which have been prioritised in 11 states across each of the six geo-political zones: Construction of Ashaka-Bajoga highway in Gombe State; reconstruction of Dikwa-Gambaru Ngala road in Borno State; reconstruction of Bama-Banki road in Borno State.

“Others are rehabilitation of Sharada road in Kano State; rehabilitation of Nnamdi Azikiwe Expressway/ bypass, in Kaduna State; Reconstruction of Birnin Gwari expressway in Kaduna State; reconstruction of Birnin Gwari-Dansadau road in Kaduna State; reconstruction of Makurdi-Yandev-Gboko road in Benue State; reconstruction of Zone Roundabout-House of Assembly road in Benue State.

“The rest are reconstruction of Obajana-Kabba road in Kogi State; reconstruction of Ekuku-Idoma-Obehira road in Kogi State; construction of Adavi Eba-Ikuehi-Obeiba-Obokore road in Kogi State; rehabilitation of Lokoja-Ganaja road in Kogi State; Ofeme Community road network and bridges in Abia State; rehabilitation of Obele-Ilaro-Papalanto-Shagamu road in Ogun State; reconstruction of Apapa-Oshodi-Oworonshoki-Ojota road in Lagos State; Construction of Bodo-Bonny road and bridges across Opobo channel in Rivers State; and rehabilitation of Benin City- Asaba road in Edo State.”

Real Madrid beat Manchester United in the latest ranking

Jose Mourinho’s struggle for success at Manchester United has seen Real Madrid replace the club as the continent’s biggest earners and allowed Manchester City to narrow the earnings gap on their neighbours by a massive £40m.

United had been top of the Deloitte Money League for the previous two years but despite a return to the Champions League did not venture beyond the round of 16, so Real and Barcelona have leapfrogged them as Europe’s top two earners in the table. United did increase their revenues by getting back into the Champions League – but by only two per cent to £590m, a smaller rise than any club in the Deloitte top five. Matchday and general commercial revenues were both down and income from UEFA roughly similar to the previous year, when they won the Europa League.

City, meanwhile, increased all revenues, closing the earnings gap on United in a single season from £128m in 2016-17 to £87m this time. Gradually, City have chipped away at what was a huge class divide when the Abu Dhabis first bought the club. A decade ago, United had more than three times City’s annual earning power: £324m compared to £104m. The Deloitte report commentary said United’s on-field performances would have to improve if they are to catch up the two Spanish giants. ‘Improved first team performance will drive increased Premier League and UEFA distributions and enhance the potential to negotiate improved commercial deals.’

The narrowing of the traditional commercial class divide in Manchester is reflected in north London, with Deloitte revealing that Tottenham Hotspur have made substantial ground on Arsenal, with a mere £10m now separating them from the Gunners. Though Spurs’ extended relocation to Wembley Stadium has frustrated many fans, the temporary move has increased matchday revenue by 54 per cent to £26.5m. This has seen Spurs climb above Juventus into the Money League top 10 for only the second time.

Deloitte believe that Arsenal’s own 17-year stay in their top 10 could now come under threat. Spurs £379.4m revenue compares with Arsenal’s £389.1m – down because of the side’s absence from the Champions League.

Arsenal are the biggest fallers in the top 10 – dropping three places to ninth, their lowest position since 2004-05 after a bigger fall in revenue than any other club in the top 20. They were nearly £30m down. Liverpool’s run to the Champions League final saw them record the largest revenue increase in the Money League’s top 10 – a hike of £90.6m – and they now sit seventh.

Chelsea, Everton, Newcastle United and West Ham United complete England’s representation in this year’s top 20. Brighton and Hove Albion have made the top 30 with revenue of £139.4m – 22 years after generating just £1.1m in revenue, while in crisis and teetering on the brink of relegation from the Football League.real-madrid-fifa-club-world-cup

Real Madrid star to decide on future amid Arsenal rumours

Real Madrid midfielder, James Rodriguez could move to England once his two-year loan at Bayern Munich ends this summer, according to his foster father.

The Colombian midfielder is in the final six months of his temporary stay in Germany and is due to return to Real Madrid. Yet Juan Carlos Restrepo admitted the 27-year-old is keeping his options open, with Rodriguez attracting strong interest from Arsenal.

‘He is comfortable in Munich. I don’t have news about it, but there may be offers based on those rumours coming from England. He is calm and he feels that he’s at a good level again and that he’s physically strong. That gives us a perspective that he is happy, motivated and working well, as he is eager to achieve new success,’ Restrepo said.

Bayern Munich spent £11.5million for the two-year loan with an option to make it permanent for £39.5million. Despite Rodriguez remaining open to a return to Madrid, he is still out of favour at the Spanish giants and will likely need to move on for first-team football.

Current Bayern boss Niko Kovac has not used Rodriguez regularly since taking charge in the summer, having made only 12 appearances and scoring three goals. In total, Rodriguez has appeared 51 times and managed 11 goals during his 18 months in Germany.

Restrepo added: ‘Real Madrid are one of his loves, but unfortunately he had to look at a different course. However, that does not mean that he doesn’t love Los Blancos, an institution that allowed him to enjoy beautiful moments. Inside his heart, given that he is a fan of Real Madrid, he will contemplate the possibility of returning. Real Madrid own his rights and I imagine that if he has good performances then his return would be possible.’

PSG panics over Neymar’s fitness for Manchester United clash in Champions League

neymar-psg-napoli-uefa-champions-league-06112018_1gitqhhpy5m0b1umlam56mf2noFrench side Paris Saint-Germain suffered an injury blow to their superstar, Neymar, after the Brazilian forward hobbled off injured just after the hour mark of PSG’s Coupe de France encounter against Strasbourg at the Parc Des Princes on Wednesday night.

A goal in each half from Edinson Cavani in the third minute and former Manchester United midfielder, Angel di Maria, in the 80th minute sealed the win for the French league leaders.

But the sweet taste of victory for Thomas Tuchel’s side was soured by injury to Neymar who was emotional as he came off the field in the 62nd miunte for youngster, Moussa Diaby, after the former Barcelona man appeared to twist his right foot.kylian-mbappe-edinson-cavani-neymar-psg-celtic-13092017_1e6bzx55xoxpv10tf92692ramy

The Brazil star seemed to injure himself when Strasbourg midfielder Moataz Zemzemi attempted to tackle him three times before referee Johan Hamel awarded a free-kick.

Neymar was angered by the rough treatment meted out by Zemzemi and got a form of revenge when he flicked the ball over the Strasbourg man’s head before firing wide from the resultant set-piece.

However, Neymar left the pitch shortly after to receive treatment and, though he came back on, was unable to continue and looked to be in tears as he made his way down the tunnel.neymar-psg-paris-saint-germain-2018-19_1b0bcvkza6zp41f0fcuiicpzfn262211551.jpg
PSG, who were leading 1-0 at the time, face Premier League side Manchester United in the first leg of their Champions League last-16 tie on February 12 at Old Trafford.

Neymar is now a doubt for that encounter against a side that has chalked up seven successive wins under interim boss, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in all competitions and look a much different proposition for PSG from the team under Jose Mourinho when they were drawn to face each other late last year.

Before facing PSG, though, Solskjaer will have another big test waiting for him in the form of a FA Cup fourth round clash with Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on Friday, a game which comes barely two weeks after the Norwegian guided the Red Devils to an impressive 1-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur in a Premier League match played at Wembley; the win coming courtesy of Marcus Rashford’s first half strike and David De Gea’s second half heroics which saw the Spanis goalkeeper make an astounding 11 saves to keep Mauricio Pochettino’s team at bay.

For PSG, Cavani and Kylian Mbappe are still available for now to lead the attack while di Maria and Julian Draxler are available options to fill up a potential void opened by Neymar’s injury on Wednesday night.

Sisters Caught Attempting To Smuggle Drugs Into Kuje Prison

Officers of the Kuje Medium Security Prison in the Federal Capital Territory have arrested two sisters for attempting to smuggle substances suspected to be cannabis and Tramadol into the prison premises. The prime suspect, identified as Miss Blessing Chinwuba, allegedly concealed the prohibited items in a carton of neatly packed noodles, which she wanted to take into the prison.the-sisters

She was arrested by vigilant officers at the prison’s gate before she could pass the items to an inmate, John Ifeanyichukwu. This was contained in a statement by the FCT Prisons Service Command spokesman, Humphrey Chukwuedo, on Tuesday.

According to the statement, the prime suspect, who feigned ignorance of the contents of her illegal cargo during interrogation, claimed that the consignment was given to her by her younger sister, Victoria. Victoria, while corroborating her sibling’s claims, also said she was unaware of the contents of the consignment, which she said she merely collected from a courier service provider. The two suspects have been handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency for further investigation and possible prosecution.

Recall that according to a report by Punch Metro, a woman, Miss Ijeoma Franca, has been caught trying to smuggle substance suspected to be Indian hemp into the Medium Security Prisons, Kuje, Abuja. The substance concealed in a carton of biscuit was discovered during a routine search on visitors by the prison officers. The Federal Capital Territory Prison Command spokesman, Humphrey Chukwuedo, in a statement on Wednesday, stated that the suspect claimed during interrogation that one Daniel engaged her to deliver the package to his brother, Miracle Amechi, an inmate in Kuje prisons.

“During the interrogation, she claimed that one Mr Daniel had engaged her to take some package to his brother, Mr Miracle Amechi, who is an inmate in Kuje prisons and the package includes a carton of spicy biscuit, rolls of milk and milo, shirts and N2,500 and that she was ignorant of the real content of the carton of spicy biscuit,” Chukwuedo stated.

He added that Franca had been handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency for further action. Meanwhile, the Controller of Prisons, FCT Command, Sylvester Nwakuche, has warned visitors to the prison to shun smuggling of hard drugs to prison inmates and encouraging its use in whatever manner. He noted that the use of hard drugs not only compromised reformation and rehabilitation of prisoners but also had a debilitating effect on their health.

He further appealed to the general public to support “the doggedness of the prison authority headed  by the Controller-General of Prisons, Ahmed Jafaru in ensuring that the aims of imprisonment  is achieved in order to have a safe and sound society.”

FG Plan To Cut #3,000 From The Newly Approved Minimum Wage Of Workers

Mixed reactions have trailed the decision of the National Council of State on the new minimum wage for workers in Nigeria.nlc-protest408805875.jpg

Recall that the National Council of State has decided that the national minimum wage for states and the private sector should be N27,000, and agreed also that N30,000 should be minimum wage for federal workers. This decision was reached in the National Council of state meeting, which held at the State house on Tuesday, and was presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari.osinbajo-with-nlc-leaders-600x338599490044.jpg

The Minister of Labour, Chris Ngige informed state house correspondents of the decision, shortly after the meeting.

Reacting to the development, lawmaker representing Kaduna Central, Senator Shehu Sani faulted the decision to slash N3,000 off the the sum.

According to him, many government agencies are declaring ‘record breaking’ Billions and trillions in revenues, while some states also boast of an increase in their Internally generated revenue. This according to him, this implies that both federal and states should be able to pay the earlier agreed sum of N30,000.nlc-fg-minimum-wage-2-21298622026.jpg

Speaking via his Twitter handle on Tuesday, the lawmker wrote:

Cristiano Ronaldo is ready to accept jail sentence when he returns to Madrid

Cristiano Ronaldo is expected to plead guilty to tax charges related to his time at Real Madrid and accept a suspended prison sentence. The Portuguese forward, who is now on the books at Italian giants Juventus, will be in the Spanish capital on Tuesday to appear before a judge.

The Portuguese is due in the Spanish capital on Tuesday to appear before a judge and he is accused of defrauding authorities out of income generated through image rights. Back in 2017, Ronaldo stated that he had never tried to avoid paying the relevant taxes on his income. He was, however, accused by a state prosecutor of four counts of tax fraud from the period of 2011 to 2014. Ronaldo was said to have hidden €14.7m (£13m/$17m) in shell companies outside of Spain.

The accusations do not involve the salary he was paid by Real Madrid after joining the club from Manchester United in 2009. He is now set to appear in court as a ruling on his case is made. In Spain, a judge can hand out a two-year suspended sentence for first-time offenders.

Ronaldo is expected to accept that judgment after reaching an agreement with the state prosecutor and the relevant tax authorities in 2018. He will, however, have to pay out nearly €19m (£17m/$22m) in fines. The 33-year-old has opted to appear in court in person after declining the option to address a judge by video link. His time in Madrid is not expected to last long having already reached a prior agreement with the authorities.

Ronaldo’s former team-mate, Xabi Alonso, may require a little longer, though, in resolving his case. The ex-Liverpool midfielder also stands accused of defrauding tax authorities of approximately €2m (£1.8m) between 2010 and 2012. Once again, the charges relate to income generated from image rights.

World Cup winner Alonso could be sentenced to five years in prison and fined €4m (£3.5m) on top of the money he already owes. The 37-year-old, who retired in 2017, denies any wrongdoing. Ronaldo and Alonso are not the first footballing figures to have been subjected to such investigations by Spanish tax authorities over recent years. Lionel Messi, Jose Mourinho, Javier Mascherano, Marcelo, Luka Modric, Alexis Sanchez, Ricardo Carvalho, Angel Di Maria, Radamel Falcao and Fabio Coentrao have all faced similar charges.

Arsenal abandons Denis Suarez deal, set to complete a deal for Real Madrid star

messi-luis-suarez-and-denis-suarez-1Unai Emery’s dream reunion with former Villarreal star Denis Suarez seems like a deal that will not happen this January. The former Sevilla manager is keen to secure a deal for Barcelona star but complications with both Arsenal and Barcelona board members may scupper the deal. Arsenal are looking into doing business with their La Liga rivals Real Madrid instead.

Arsenal have made official contact with Real Madrid over the possibility of signing James Rodriguez on loan this month, according to reports. The Colombian star is currently on loan at Bayern Munich, where he has three goals and two assists in 12 appearances this season.

He is set to return to Real at the end of the season and it is claimed the Spanish giants are keen to offload him. According to the Independent, the Gunners are keen on signing Rodriguez in the summer transfer window, but have made enquiries to sign him now in an initial loan deal. That would see him cut his spell at Bayern short to spend the remainder of the Premier League campaign at the Emirates Stadium, before signing a permanent deal in the summer.

Related imageHowever, Arsenal are not the only club interested, with Napoli said to be keen. Plus, it is claimed Real would prefer the Colombian ace move to north London rivals Tottenham – as a makeweight in their desired move for playmaker Christian Eriksen.

Arsenal are tight on funds in January and are currently looking to only bring players in on loan, with Barcelona midfielder Denis Suarez also said to be on their wanted list.

Arsenal planning to sign James Rodriguez this January

According to the Independent, Arsenal have enquired about the possibility of signing James Rodriguez from Real Madrid on loan this January.  The Colombian star is currently on an extended loan at Bayern Munich, and set to return to parent club Real Madrid at the end of the season.

The European champions want to sell James on a permanent deal at that point, with that having attracted interest from Arsenal as well as Napoli.  All clubs have would favour an initial loan now, something it is believed that Bayern would not be averse to. James himself is understood to want to fight it out for his place at Madrid at the end of the season, but that may prove futile if the Spanish side – as expected – sign Tottenham Hotspur’s Christian Eriksen and Chelsea’s Eden Hazard in the summer.

Sources close to the Bernabeu hierarchy say they would prefer James going to Spurs to potentially smooth an Eriksen signing, with the Dane out of contract in 2020.  Arsenal are yet to make a signing this January transfer window with head coach Unai Emery having earlier admitted that funds were tight at the north London club.

The club therefore favour attempting to sign any targets on loan, with Barcelona’s Denis Suarez another target. “The club is for with a situation which can help us,” Emery said when quizzed about the deal after Arsenal’s 2-0 win against Chelsea on Saturday.Image result for james rodriguez Arsenal

Manchester United to make one final decision before replacing Solskjaer

According to reports, Manchester United would prefer to hire a football director before appointing a permanent manager. While Mauricio Pochettino remains the number-one choice to succeed Jose Mourinho, caretaker boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is now enjoying growing support from all levels of the club.

Reports indicate that Sir Alex Ferguson, who has been advising Solskjaer and played a role in his hiring, would back his full-time appointment. Such circumstances complicate the situation, and represent one reason why they would prefer to appoint a director of football – as part of a wider technical body – before then.

Red Bull Leipzig’s Paul Mitchell is admired by United, but it is expected to be very difficult to prise him from the Bundesliga club in the near future, which has meant club legend Edwin van der Sar – currently CEO at Ajax – is now attracting more interest. An ambitious plan to transpose the former Juventus team of Giuseppe Marotta and current sporting director Fabio Paratici has faded. Marotta does not want to work in England, while Paratici wants to remain at the Turin club. The issue of appointing a director of football became one of the most fractious issues with Mourinho, and played a part in the manager losing his job.

The Independent has been told that the Portuguese was flatly against the introduction of such a figure, but even resisted the idea of some informal positions on the board to advise the hierarchy on football. Solskjaer is meanwhile proving hugely popular and is loved by the players, the staff and even key figures like Ferguson.

It is now getting to the point where getting top four or beating Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League last 16 are seen as potential game-changers in the process of hiring the next full-time manager.

Emmanuel Badu Kobi who claimed that he foresees an attack on the electoral commissioner of Nigeria, added that President Buhari is hatching plans to rig the upcoming presidential election.

“Nigeria’s election may be put on hold or disaster after the elections. Either they’ll put it on hold or they’ll let the elections go on but after the election, the results will bring trouble because Buhari has decided to steal the election,” Prophet Badu Kobi said in his prophecies for 2019 during the 31st December Watchnight Service in his church.

He also foresees an attack on the Electoral Commissioner of Nigeria.

Atiku Abubakar to be invited for questioning when he returns from U.S- Lai Moh’d

Alhaji-Lai-Mohammed11

Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, has disclosed plans by the Federal Government to invite the PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, for questioning once he returns from his visit to the United States.

Speaking to state house correspondents today, Mohammed said Atiku is expected to come forward for questioning over his alleged role in the collapse of former Bank PHB. He said fresh evidence before the government suggests that Atiku benefited from slush funds that led to the collapse of Bank PHB.atiku-and-buhari2113543599.png

Mohammed said the government has in its posession “paper trail which shows that he benefited from N156 million.”

‘“It started from an internal memo dated 13 January 2009 asking that a draft in favour of Atiku Abubakar of 156 million should be raised,” he said
According to Premiumtimes, the Minister added that another memo on the same date was raised to confirm that the amount was raised from a “claimant management account.”Atiku-in-sokoto-780x405

He said the government has proof of the account mandate, cheque and account statement showing Mr Abubakar as the signatory to the account that received the money.

“We want him to stay in the US for as long as he wants but he has to explain to Nigerians when he returns,” he said.Lai-Mohammed-1

Speaking further on the visit of the former vice president to the U.S., the minister said the government had earlier issued a statement advising the U.S. not to issue him a visa.

He, however, said it remains the prerogative of the U.S. government to issue visa to anyone
“We are not perturbed one bit.

He can go ahead and get a U.S. green card. That will not save him from imminent defeat in the forthcoming election,” Mohammed said.

Unbelievable! Over 300,000 Candidates Registered For JAMB In One Week

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) says it has registered over 300,000 candidates for its 2019 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination in one week, despite the ongoing strike by ASUU.jamb6The Board’s Head, Media and Information, Fabian Benjamin, made this known to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday, in Lagos.

Mr Benjamin said this was coming a week after the commencement of the registration exercise.

NAN reports that the board commenced registration of candidates for the 2019 all Computer Based Test (CBT) on Jan.10 and it would close on February 21.

According to him, the registration so far has been seamless, and the board is happy with the development.

“We are happy with the way the process is going; we hope it will continue this way.

“So far, we have registered over 300,000 candidates, as at Thursday.

“We are happy there have not been issues because so far, there is just a tiny gap between the number of candidates that have acquired the e-pin and that of those that have registered,” he said.

Capturing Challenges

Meanwhile, JAMB has insisted that all candidates with issues of biometrics must go over to Abuja for it to be rectified.

“I want to reiterate the fact that only the Registrar of the board has the sole right to attend to such issues.

“Any candidate who may have issues with the capturing of his or her finger prints at their respective points of registration will need to come down to our office in Abuja.

“This will require the chief executive to do it himself, for the purpose of security,” Mr Benjamin said.

This, however, was contrary to calls by some stakeholders urging the board to set up special centres in every state of the country to tackle issues.

The National Parent Teacher Association of Nigeria (NAPTAN) had argued that asking candidates with biometric issues to travel all the way to Abuja to get such issues sorted out was too demanding, citing dangers of transportation, fares, among others.jamb3

Adeolu Ogunbanjo, the second deputy national president of the association, said that most parents were barely struggling to get money to get their children and wards registered.

Mr Ogunbanjo said that for those with such biometric issues, travelling to Abuja was an additional burden.

Barcelona boss speaks on Levante’s Copa appeal against his team

ernesto-valverdeBarcelona boss Ernesto Valverde insisted he is unconcerned over Levante’s official complaint regarding their selection of Chumi in the first leg of their Copa del Rey clash. While the complaint has been raised that the club fielded an ineligible player, the Barca manager insisted he was right to pick Chumi.

Young defender Chumi started last week’s 2-1 loss to Levante despite being due to serve a suspension after picking up five bookings while playing for Barcelona B in the Segunda Division B. Barca won the reverse fixture at Camp Nou 3-0 on Thursday – Ousmane Dembele scoring twice and Lionel Messi adding the third – to advance to the quarter-finals courtesy of a 4-2 aggregate success, with the draw for the last eight due to take place on Friday.

Image result for Valverde not worried about Levante's Copa appeal

However, speaking prior to kick-off on Thursday, Levante president Quico Catalan had stated his club’s intention to lodge a complaint to the Royal Spanish Football Federation, reportedly over Chumi’s involvement in the first encounter. Yet Valverde is confident Barcelona will not be kicked out of the competition and that Chumi was eligible to feature in the Copa del Rey.

“We have no doubt about Chumi. Not before, not after, or during. We believe that tomorrow we must be in the draw. We are sure that we did it well. We knew perfectly well that Chumi was sanctioned, he could not be used in the match against Eibar [in La Liga]. We are convinced of what we have done. We have acted in an absolutely correct way. We have won where we had to win. It is very clear,” he told reporters in his post-match news conference.

Barcelona will be looking to avoid the fate suffered by their rivals in the competition in 2015 when Real Madrid found themselves expelled for fielding an ineligible player. Madrid had played forward Denis Cheryshev in the first-leg victory over Cadiz, with the Russia international ineligible due to a suspension earned in the previous year of the competition while on loan at Villarreal. Los Blancos were forced to forfeit the second leg, and though they appealed, were bounced from the competition.

Man Utd splashes another star player a huge new deal in order to keep him at Old Trafford

According to English Media outlet Mirror, Manchester United are ready to hand Marcus Rashford a huge new deal — with Europe’s top clubs preparing to pounce on the forward this summer.

England international Rashford has underlined his worth to the Old Trafford giants in recent weeks with six goals and three assists in nine games. United are understood to be ready to open talks with the 21-year-old over a double-your-money contract worth around £150,000 a week that would reflect his progression and importance to the club.

Rashford’s £75k per week deal runs out in 18 months, and although United have an option to extend it by an extra year, there is a desire to tie him down with a more long-term arrangement.

Spain’s European champions Real Madrid and perennial Italian title winners Juventus are just two of Europe’s elite clubs who are known to covet Rashford, whose future looked uncertain during the turbulent reign of former boss Jose Mourinho.

But academy kid Rashford, set to make his 150th appearance for the Reds in Saturday’s home game against Brighton, is thriving under interim boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and has taken his game to a new level since the former United striker’s return last month.

Rashford has flourished in a more central position up front, scoring a stunning winner away to Tottenham at Wembley last weekend and enjoying the best goal-run of his career since he burst onto the scene under then-boss Louis van Gaal in 2016.

If he can find the net in the Brighton game, Rashford will take his Premier League goals tally this season to eight — his best return in the top-flight, with a third of the 38-match season still remaining.

Former Liverpool and Man City star, Balotelli beats coach at the gym

Italy international striker, Mario Balotelli, who played for Premier League top two sides, Liverpool and Manchester City, displayed his trademark power and strength by brushing aside his fitness coach during a speed and agility session at the gym.

The Nice striker was completing an exercise that involved sprinting off a trampoline and then sidestepping left and right before a short sprint. During one intensive repetition, the former Manchester City and Liverpool striker collided with his trainer and sent him sprawling to the floor.balotelli1

Balotelli, who is currently at Ligue 1 club Nice, may be on the move during January with several clubs interested in his services. Marseille are frontrunners to sign him according to Sky Italy, with interest from Premier League Newcastle having cooled.

While he managed 42 goals in 64 appearances for the club in his first two seasons in France, the enigmatic frontman has struggled for form this season and has no goals in 10 games. His side are eighth in Ligue 1 under former Arsenal midfielder Patrick Vieira, while Marseille are a place and a point behind.

Barcelona star, Lionel Messi plans to break Pele’s goal record

Barcelona captain, Lionel Messi has scored 575 goals in all competitions for Barcelona. He is now 68 goals behind the figure Pelé scored during his 19 seasons at Santos.

Messi's next target: equalling the 643 goals Pelé scored for Santos

As far as football records go, it’s fair to say that there are not that many left for Leo Messi to break. After reaching 400 goals in LaLiga for Barça – 575 in all official games at club level, Messi is closing in an another historic registry.lionel-messi-cropped_6khnpodnzc3g1s80dva0xuhm0313094635.jpg

First, he will be aiming at reaching the round figure of 600 for the same club – something which he could feasibly achieve this season. But without a shadow of a doubt, the historic figure is the 643 official club goals which O Rei Pelé scored for Santos. On his way, Messi has now gone past Gerd Müller (565 goals for Bayern Munich), Eusébio (473 goals for Benfica) and Cristiano Ronaldo (450 goals for Real Madrid).Ronaldo-vs-Messi-967766

Messi totals 575 goals in 659 official games for Barça. He averages a mind-boggling 0.87 goals per game and if he continues at that rate – could theoretically equal Pelé’s tally in his next 78 games. That means that Messi could match Pelé’s club goals record by the end of the 2019-20 season or the start of the 2020-21 season. Two decades ago, it was generally thought that Pelé’s record would last forever – it would never be broken.messsi-english

With his numbers and given that he is showing no signs of stopping scoring, Messi has shown that Pelé’s record is now in danger of being equalled and even surpassed. He has been averaging 1.05 goals per game in LaLiga at Camp Nou and overtook Thelmo Zarra to become the all-time maximum goal scorer in the history of the Spanish league in November 2014.pele-messi

On that occasion, there was no special celebration at Camp Nou for the feat, and it was just as routine to see Messi hit the 400 league goals mark. He has spent nine seasons at Barça, ending as the league’s top scorer five times. If he does take Pelé’s record away, he might set a new record which may never be matched.

Increase your bid if you really want Leandro Paredes Zenit St. Petersburg Tells Chelsea

Zenit St Petersburg are demanding Chelsea go higher if they want to sign Leandro Paredes in this January transfer window. The Daily Mail says Zenit want £36m for Chelsea target Leandro Paredes.

Talks between the clubs opened last week though Chelsea fell short with their opening offer for the Argentine midfielder who returned for training on Monday after the Russian League winter break.

Chelsea’s opening offer was £26.8million, as they look to replace Monaco signing Cesc Fabregas. Paredes has scored seven times in his 43 matches for Zenit St Petersburg.

He’s also previously played for Empoli on loan, Roma, Chievo, and Boca Juniors.
